Attention Parents:
All medication in the clinic should be picked up by the last full day of school Wednesday, May 15. Any medication remaining in the clinic after this day will be turned in to the SRO. No medication will be left in the building over summer vacation.
There are changes to the LCDOE medication policy coming in the 2024-2025 school year.
Over-the-counter (OTC) medications may require a doctor's signature if deemed chronic and should include the reason for dispensing. Parents must also sign the authorization. It must be brought in with the original label, listing the ingredients, dose schedule, and child’s name affixed to the container. All expired medication will be disposed of if the date on the packaging is before the end of the school year.
All prescription medications must have a physician's signature and order attached. The parents must also sign the authorization. The order must include:
Student name
Name of medication
The dose
The route
The frequency
Time to be administered
The diagnosis or reason the medication is needed*
A list of adverse effects that may be reasonably expected*
Contraindications to administering the medication
Licensed prescriber contact information
A written statement from the licensed prescriber which identifies the specific conditions and circumstances under which contact should be made with him or her in relation to the condition or reactions of the student receiving the medication and reflects a willingness on the part of the licensed prescriber to accept direct communications from the school nurse or the person administering the
Also required will be written orders from a physician to discontinue medication previously signed into the school, along with the guardian's signature. We can no longer take the guardian’s verbal consent to stop a medicine.
Any Alternative medications (included but not limited to, dietary supplements, herbs, aromatherapy, and essential oils) must be administered with the same best practices and standard of care as prescription medications and may be denied if not in compliance with state law and Rules and Regulations of TBON.
